Hi! My name is Karma Samtani.
I’m a freelance writer and graphic designer, passionate about examining the links between electoral politics, social movements, and pop culture.
Through my reporting for outlets including Teen Vogue, Jacobin, and The Progressive, I hope to use journalism to platform and spotlight candidates, causes, and artists defying the rising tide of political cynicism with hope and empathy. My writing has been recognized by figures like Rep. Cori Bush, Amanda Litman, Reshma Saujani, and John Nichols, along with organizations including DSA National, Our Revolution, and Public Power NY.
I also have extensive experience as a youth organizer in the fields of climate, racial and education justice. I founded and serve as the Executive Director of Inclusivity Hong Kong, a citywide advocacy organization dedicated to making Hong Kong’s campus environments more inclusive. As the Campaign Manager for Quaranteens Against Xenophobia, I led a youth-run social media campaign, building a coalition of AAPI organizations to fight back against the rising tide of anti-Asian racism. Previously, I also served as the National Press Secretary for the Youth Climate Action Team, a Wisconsin-based climate justice nonprofit with over 45 hubs nationwide.
As an experienced graphic designer and social media manager, I’ve supported nonprofits and campaigns in the past by providing volunteer web development, social media, and graphic design services. These days, I’m exploring ways to combine my passion for pop culture with more experimental graphic design techniques.
In my free time, I can be found carefully curating Spotify playlists and using Twitter way too much. I’m available for commissions, so please feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear from you.
